Surprises From Singapore

Imagine my surprise when a package arrived this morning that was stamped _Par Avion_ direct from Singapore. In it was a beautiful swatch of fabric–two yards of a thick, cotton blend woven fabric with gold brocaded geometric borders of varying widths along the length of it. I envision a long, fitted skirt… or a sheath dress with cap sleeves… or even a tailored shirt with long, flowing sleeves that are slit to the elbows, creating a kimono effect.

Timo, you’ve outdone yourself. Thank you.

That sounds beautiful. Can we have pictures when you’re done?

Good to hear that you got it and like it! I saw the fabric in a market and immediately had to think of you :-). To explain it’s origin: It’s actually not from Singapore but from Phnom Penh (Cambodia) where this is a very traditional design, mainly used for long, straight dresses. It has a Singaporean-poststamp since the courier-company I used (believe me, you don’t want to entrust anything to the Cambodian Mail!) sends their packages from there.

The colour is a little bright for my liking but apart from that it looks like a lovely piece of fabric. I can’t wait to see what you make.
