Yesterday…

* Rebecca and I emptied out our dead terracotta planter pots, replaced them with plastic lookalikes, and seeded them with lavender.
* Madeline and Rebecca cleared and planted a flowerbed in the front yard.
* Rebecca cleared another bed while I made scones in the kitchen, and then the girls planted peas. Pea distribution was less than ideal, but I think I’ll cope.

Yesterday…

* I rounded up the kids when they were done with their schoolwork and we spent the last bit of the morning running errands. Wal*Mart for a lamp for Madeline and headphones for everyone; the bank for me to deposit checks; then Panera, for lemonades and bagels to take to the park.
* The kids played at Signal Hill Park for an hour; on our way there, we passed Matthew on his motorcycle on his way out to a tag. He met us later at the park for lemonade.
* We watched Avatar. Marcus pointed out plot holes. Rebecca and Madeline were totally suckered in.

Yesterday…

* I took 贝贝 (Rebecca) to her Mandarin lesson. She’s making steady progress, and will be taking more lessons over the summer. Her teacher is studying Accounting at NVCC, and I am eternally grateful that she’s willing to work with 贝贝 every week.
* I had actual leftovers available in the refrigerator so that it was a simple matter of reheating [link slug=”lamb-pilaf”]lamb pilaf[/link] before running out the door to yoga.
* I ordered my Adobe CS4 upgrade. I am not sure if it falls into the “post-announce upgrade policy for single-user products” window, but my CS1 is so far out of date that it is totally worthless on Snow Leopard. Must stay on upgrade path!
* I placed my second order with Holy Cow Delivery for milk! Delivered! To my front door! (Marcus totally loves the name–it tickles his funny bone.)

Goodbye, Cruel Tonsils

Two weeks ago, I walked into an operating room and finally, after years of dealing with sore throats and general ick-factor, had my tonsils removed. I spent four days on Vicodin, then switched it up for Tylenol 3, then went completely off pain meds five days ago.

Since then, I have had a dream every single night. I can’t remember the last time I had a dream that didn’t involve Nyquil.

I have stopped snoring. This is a good thing, because previously, I snored like a freight train, complete with gasping for air every so often.

A thick coating of yellow pollen is on every surface outside, and I have a teensy weensy post-nasal drip. Normally, I’d be in agony because my throat would be a mass of grossness. I’m avoiding taking decongestants right now because I don’t want to dry out my still-healing throat, but the effects of pollen are minimal at best.

In short, the operation and recovery were totally worth it.

Security Issues

After sorting out that mod_security was triggering on common WordPress functions like _posting_ on a brand spankin’ new dedicated server, I had some explaining to do:

> Client so, why didn’t this issue affect my other site?
Me it isn’t what you were doing
it is what you were saying
Client O RLY?
Me mod_security triggers on certain phrases
Client as in, writing about lesbians?
OMG!

(Totally quoted by permission. It was that funny.)
